Uranium glass has been marvelled for its fluorescent effect since 1789. Now, a highly collectable commodity, these pieces increase in value due to their increasing scarcity. Where it was once commonplace to find uranium glass in charity shops etc, it is now really hard to come by pieces. The reason for its scarcity (and desirability) can be traced to the Cold War and World War II. So this fabulous sparkly pale lime green stone will likely have been made pre WW2 and then put into its current setting after 1953.
This uranium glass is most magical pale green sparkly hybrid rose cut stone that just glistens at every turn. From the palest peppermint green, through to pale lemon and lime greens this ring sings with reflective sparkles. The stone is rose cut on the top and the raised profile of the stone and the way the light reflects through the stone is like a rippling pond due to the facets on the bottom too. The stone is bezel set in a fabulous step design oval shield type ring. The 14ct gold is stunning in its rich hue against the pale green of the gold, and the steps catch the light and the angles against the oval shape are a lovely contrast. This ring face is hollow underneath - which was so common for the late Mid Century Era - a time when gold was in shorter supply thanks to the wars - and so it was all about the look and not the weight.
